How to remove Odour using Ozone:

An ozone generator is a device designed to produce the gas ozone. Ozone gas is used effectively in water purification and odour control

Ozone is made of oxygen molecules. The type of oxygen we are most familiar with, the kind we breathe every day, is actually diatomic oxygen aka dioxygen, or “02,” which is made of two oxygen molecules. (Technically speaking, we don’t actually breathe individual oxygen molecules, we breathe dioxygen).

HOW DOES OZONE WORK?

Ozone is a naturally occurring gas that is made up of three oxygen atoms. Oxygen is made up of two atoms. An Ozone generator uses electrical charges to change oxygen from the air by breaking it down into atoms, then combining three of those oxygen atoms to make Ozone. This third atom is very unstable when it makes contact with a pathogen particle, bacteria or virus. it will destroy them leaving (oxygen).

ARE THEY BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?

Ozone occurs naturally in nature and is formed during storms when lightning strikes oxygen (0₂) molecules. The molecule splits into two atoms which recombine with another oxygen molecule to form ozone. The formation of ozone in this manner creates the fresh rain smell commonly associated with storms. The same scent is discernible when our ozone generators are in use.

Ozone is also created in nature when the sun’s UV rays strike and break up oxygen molecules. This typically occurs in the earth’s stratosphere and forms the ozone layer which protects the earth from ultraviolet radiation.

HOW TO USE OZONE GENERATORS?

In restoration, we use ozone generators as a sanitiser to kill bacteria and as an odour neutralizer to remove the persistent odour but first, it is vital as with all odour treatments  to remove all organic material that is generating the VOCs.

Smoke odour is produced by the soot and burnt material left behind so this needs to be removed.

Ozone treatments can then be used to remove the remaining odour left behind.

Ozone will also effectively mask smells produced by mould and mildew.
